Chapter 12

Georgia exited the tent and stretched her arms behind her head. “The air out here feels so much better than inside there! It was all hot and stuffy!”
Mitzi helped Maple along and towards Georgia, “I agree, so much nicer out here but the show was totes amazing!”
Chasity and Leefah followed and whispered to each other.
“So what do you think about that Joker guy…” Chasity asked.
“Well it seems the Intel on him using card magic was right… and that was certainly a rigged show considering he had to help with a couple performances…” Leefah replied.
Behind them, Tophet listened in from a small alleyway that covered her with dark shadows so she became unnoticeable.
Georgia looked back, “Alright you two, tell me what’s going on! You’ve been whispering and acting all secretive so I know something’s up!”
Chasity rubbed her head awkwardly, “It’s nothing really!”
Georgia crossed her arms annoyed, “Ugh. Fine… I’m going for a walk, I wanna find Desirae and apologize for hurting her feelings and storming off.”
Leefah stood next to Chasity nodded, “Alright, you have fun. We’re gonna go with Maple and Mitzi up to their cabin so once you find Desirae meet us there okay?”
Mitzi butted forward, “WAIT!!! Granny I’m gonnna go with Georgia okay?!”
Maple rolled her eyes, “No need to shout dear, whatever.”
Mitzi clapped her hands happily, “Alright!” she ran over to Georgia excitedly, “I wanted to do some shopping when we find your friend so I hope you don’t mind!” Mitzi said politely.
Georgia smiled back and nodded, “Sure thing! See you guys later then!” Georgia called to Leefah and the others and departed with Mitzi.
Leefah, Chasity, and Maple watched till they were both out of earshot and huddled together.
“Now that we found the Joker guy, we need to find out exactly what their plan is…” Leefah said.
Chasity nodded, “Good plan Leelee! Now if only we could get back inside the tent…” Chasity wondered and looked back towards the closed draped entrance.
Maple began walking away, “We’ll need to come back later. I’d rather no citizens get involved and this place is too crowded for my liking.”
Leefah and Chasity followed without question.
Maple looked up at the two girls, they had grown so much. She smiled and nodded contently.
Leefah looked down, “Is something wrong Maple?”
Maple shook her head, “No no, nothing’s the matter. I’m just surprised at how much you two have grown up. I can still remember when I paired you two as roommates back at Maeander so long ago.”
Chasity blushed, “I remember that day! Man, me and Leefah never got along too much back then did we…”
Maple nodded, “But you two grew upon each other. I certainly was proud of you both… although you’re other little friends, specifically the vampire and werewolf cousins were indeed troublemakers like you both.”
Leefah smiled at the memory, “Atlas and Levii were pretty great though. You gotta admit you liked being our head resident”
Maple nodded once more like a wise old woman, “Oh yes, I won’t deny that you kept me on my toes. However, I’m quite content being a Spellcaster tutor here in Sunset Valley… which reminds me Leefah…” she began and then stopped walking.
Leefah and Chasity stopped and looked back at her. The sun had begun to set behind them and caused a beautiful orange light to shine from behind their heads, enveloping their faces in mysterious shadows.
Maple looked up, “How is your father doing these days?”
Leefah stuttered and lowered her head.
Chasity stood in her place uncomfortably. She learned that Leefah’s parents were a touchy topic yet Maple liked to barge in on Leefah like a worried adult figure.
Leefah brushed a strand of hair from her eyes, “He’s just fine!” she replied with a fake smile.
Maple hesitated for a second and then played along and nodded, “Well I would have preferred the jerk call me every once in a while… but I guess us in the Circle aren’t the best at communication.”
Leefah turned away and cringed at the thought of her father.
Chasity noticed and pretended she didn’t by continuing the conversation with Maple. “So then, the circle is still going fine I assume?”
“Yes, although some of the upper ranks are debating of replacing us lower ranks….Which is why I asked about your father, considering he and your mother are the 7th ranks” Maple replied.
Leefah looked back at her, surprised at the information. “I bet Draconius brought up the idea, didn’t he…”
                Maple grew silent.
Leefah clenched her teeth and shrugged off the fact, “The only people he had on his side is Mydia and Angel…”
Maple looked at her, “True, but that won’t stop him from being the evil little twerp you’ve always known him to be. Apparently, I’ve also hear Zaleria the 4th rank is dabbling in some dark activities as well… Though the woman has always been a bit crazy…”
Chasity butted in, “All of you are kinda crazy… violent too…”
Leefah and Maple both looked at her and smacked her, Leefah with a clenched fist and Maple with her walking stick. “WHO ARE YOU CALLING VIOLENT!” they both shouted.
Chasity felt her spirit drifting from her body as she lay on the ground in pain, “Point proven…” she muttered.
Leefah calmed herself, “Still Maple… If Draco did decide to get rid of the Lower ranks like Dad, Mom, and You… who did he have in mind to replace them?”
Maple sighed, “His family of Spellcasters are all on the verge of Level 9… I’m sure he has them in mind that way during the meetings his votes will all be in his favor…”
Leefah gasped, “That’s crazy! Even other magic councils like the fairy and vampires and even the werewolves would never allow such a thing! It’d send the Witch community into chaos!”
Maple nodded, “Which is precisely why I want your father involved in this… even if it pains you to talk about him. I don’t care if he’s a complete idiot and neither you nor I have ever approved of his actions but we’ll need him…”
Leefah lowered her head, “Honestly… sometimes I regret getting his genes… If I wasn’t his daughter then I never would have had to deal with this stupid circle…”
Maple smiled and placed her hand on Leefah’s shoulder, “If you weren’t his daughter, you wouldn’t be alive. You also would have never been a part of my life deary, or Chasity’s or Mitzi’s and having you involved in my life makes me oh so happy.”
Leefah smiled at Maple. She was so wise and so caring.
Maple stood up straighter, “Enough of Draco and your father. I want to know what you two have in mind to deal with those Circus Freaks.”
Chasity stood up and pointed at the moon, “Well first we’ll have to deal with that!”
Maple and Leefah turned and looked up at the moon. It had begun to rise in the sky and grew bigger with each passing minute.
Chasity clenched her fist confidently, “They are called the Blood Moon Circus after all… And my deduction skills tell me they must have something to do with it!”
Leefah crossed her arms and looked Chasity with approval, “Nice work Chas.”
Chasity winked at Leefah, “Of course Leelee, you know me. My priorities are pleasing you of course, and I know that by knowing things such as that get me bonus points with you.”
                Leefah rolled her eyes.
Maple smacked her lips, “Well girls, the only problem is that we can’t stop the moon from turning red… the most ideal things is figuring out exactly what the Blood Moon does….”
The girls arrived at the cabin without realizing how much distance they had covered in their chat.
Maple headed inside and entered a large room filled with book cases, “I’m sure one of these books has something…”
Leefah walked straightforward and towards a podium that had a large magical book, emanating a large flow of Spellcaster energy.
Maple looked at her, “I supposed that would work…” she hobbled over and tapped her can on the wood of the podium. “This book as everything one would need to know about Spellcasting and the Magic world, so odds are there is something on the moon.”
Chasity flipped open a pair of glasses and tied her hair in a ponytail. “You two can use that magic book all you want, I’ll do this the old fashioned way!” she clenched her fist confidently and grabbed a random book off the bookshelf and began reading.
Outside Maple’s house, Bella peered in and watched. She called Joker up on her phone as she spied.
Joker sat upon his throne center stage in the empty circus then and answered. “Yes?”
“The old woman, red head, and fairy are busy looking up information on moon… do you have any orders?”
Joker snickered and let out a low chuckle, “Let them have a little fun… when the moon reaches the tip of the mountains you can have your fun… Understood?” he asked.
Bella nodded, “Yes sir…” she replied and hung up.
Joker rubbed his fingers along the arms of his throne. “Prim… Rue…”
Prim and Rue ran out to his side, “Sir!” they both shouted.
“Take care of the girl in yellow… I believe ‘PrismaGal’ as she is called will be needing something to work for.”
Prim and Rue nodded and fled the tent.
Tophet walked out from behind Joker’s throne. “My love…” she said in a smooth and loving voice.
Joker smiled, “Yes my dear?” he replied.
“I believe Bella was right on the two girls almost breaking out earlier during the show. I must say she made a good call…” Tophet stated.
Joker nodded, “She is proving her loyalty quite well…”
Tophet looked up through the hole in the tent and could see the moon having increased in size from before was beginning to shine in the sky.
Joker chucked once again, “Anxious my dear?”
Tophet looked down at him and clenched her umbrella, “Very much my love…”
Joker nodded, “No need to be… Stay by my side and it will all work out.”
Tophet made a small smile, one she hadn’t made in a long time. The dark tent made a small orange light upon their bodies, making them look ominous in appearance. “Alright… My love… I trust you” she replied and placed a small kiss on his cheeks and left to return to her dressing room.
